BBC One and iPlayer have commissioned Clickbait Clinic with Stacey Dooley, a new series produced by Nutopia. The production features presenter Stacey Dooley alongside medical professionals Dr Alex George and Dr Nighat Arif. The series examines medical claims and wellness trends circulating on social media platforms.
The format involves Stacey Dooley tracing the origins of viral health trends and interviewing the influencers responsible for their promotion. Dr Alex George and Dr Nighat Arif provide medical oversight to test the scientific validity of these claims. The series covers specific topics including the carnivore diet, NAD+ drips, and the use of dog deworming tablets as a purported cancer treatment. Other subjects include methylene blue, testosterone, and extreme leg lengthening surgery.
Dr Alex George is a former A&E doctor and mental health advocate. Dr Nighat Arif is a GP and author. Both contributors are active health content creators. The production focuses on the prevalence of social media as a source of health information for one third of the British population.
The series is scheduled for broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer later this year. Nutopia is the production company responsible for the series.
