BBC Weather is opening a new weather centre at the Met Office headquarters in Exeter. This move is part of a partnership between the two organisations to increase digital content production for the BBC weather app, website, and social media channels. The broadcaster is also expanding its existing weather hub in Salford.

Future weather bulletins for BBC Breakfast and the Today programme will be presented from the Salford hub. Local weather presenters will provide nationwide and detailed local forecasts for lunchtime and weekend television broadcasts. Separate national forecasts from network weather presenters will continue on the Today programme, BBC Breakfast, and weekday editions of the News at Six. The News at Ten will feature national forecasts for a trial period.

Network weather presenters will provide coverage of significant weather events via video, articles, and social media. Routine radio forecasts will be read by presenters and announcers. Jonathan Munro, Interim CEO of BBC News, and Simon Brown, Acting Chief Executive of the Met Office, confirmed the partnership.

The partnership is expected to go live later this year. The BBC first announced the agreement with the Met Office last summer.
