Channel 4 has commissioned a new series of Educating Yorkshire from Twofour. The production will return to Thornhill Community Academy to film students and staff, including headteacher Matthew Burton. This follows a previous return to the school that resulted in a 2026 Bafta nomination.
The previous series reached 8.7 million viewers across linear and streaming platforms within a 28 day consolidated window. It achieved a 28 percent share among 16 to 34 year olds, which represents a 195 percent increase over the slot average for 0 to 7 day viewing. Rita Daniels, commissioning editor at Channel 4, stated that the previous return to the academy provided a snapshot of the high school experience.
David Clews, chief creative officer at Twofour, and executive producer Grace Reynolds confirmed the return to the site to document new stories. Matthew Burton stated that the school will work with the production company and the broadcaster over the next year. The production focuses on the daily operations of the academy and the interactions between teachers and students.
Viewer data associated with the previous series indicates that 30 percent of surveyed viewers aged 16 to 34 said the programme inspired them to consider careers in education or youth work. Additionally, 80 percent of surveyed viewers stated that the series provided hope and reassurance to parents and students in similar situations. The original series previously won an Emmy award.
