The BBC World Service is holding a disinformation forum titled Trust is Earned at the University of Lagos on 3 September 2026. The event includes a live recording of World Questions chaired by Jonny Dymond. This panel will consist of businesspeople, activists, influencers, and journalists who will take questions from the audience regarding fake news, political trust, and the upcoming Nigerian elections.
The forum schedule incorporates a preview of a new documentary produced by the BBC Eye investigations team. Additional programming consists of panel discussions on AI and democracy, workshops on open source intelligence techniques used in investigative journalism, and sessions on identifying disinformation. Fiona Crack, Interim Global Director of BBC News, stated that the forum provides tools for attendees to navigate disinformation.
The event brings together educators, content creators, technology experts, and journalists to examine the role of AI in the formation of disinformation. Attendees will have access to live demonstrations and workshops focused on the deconstruction of false information. Free tickets for the forum sessions and the recording of World Questions become available on the BBC Shows and Tours website on Friday 14 August.
The Lagos event is the second forum of this type scheduled for the current year. A previous Trust is Earned forum takes place in Sao Paulo during August.
