Kellie Bright is leaving EastEnders after 13 years in the role of Linda Carter. The actress joined the BBC One soap in 2013. Her character has appeared in storylines involving alcoholism and the death of Keanu Taylor.
Bright stated she made the decision to depart over a year ago. Following discussions with EastEnders executive producer Ben Wadey and series producer Kate Oates, she agreed to extend her contract. This extension allowed the production to incorporate the character into a specific planned storyline.
Ben Wadey confirmed that the exit will occur after the completion of these current plot developments. He stated that the departure storyline will include dramatic elements. The actress noted that her departure will allow her more time to spend with her children.
The character of Linda Carter was introduced as the landlady of The Queen Victoria pub. Since 2013, the role has been a central part of the Carter family unit. Bright has remained with the production for thirteen years.
