John MacKay will guest present Scotcast for a two week period starting Monday 24 August. The broadcaster takes over the role from regular presenter Martin Geissler while the latter is away. MacKay will operate from the BBC Scotland headquarters at Pacific Quay in Glasgow. He will lead discussions on Scottish current affairs alongside the existing team of journalists and commentators.

The appointment follows MacKay departing his role as the main anchor for STV news in Central Scotland in March. Howard Simpson, Head of News and Current Affairs at BBC Scotland, confirmed the short term appointment. MacKay previously worked at BBC Scotland as a news trainee before joining STV in 1994.

Scotcast is distributed across multiple platforms including BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer. The production is also broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland, BBC One Scotland, and the BBC Scotland TV channel. The programme provides analysis and debate on news stories affecting Scotland.

The guest stint begins on 24 August and lasts for fourteen days. MacKay spent thirty years at STV before his exit in the first quarter of this year.
