River City will end on 31 August 2026 after 24 years on screen. The final episode is an hour-long special airing at 21:00 on BBC Scotland and BBC iPlayer. BBC Studios Drama produces the series.
The finale features a confrontation between characters Lenny Murdoch, played by Frank Gallagher, and Harry, played by Jim Sturgeon. Released production images show Frank Gallagher in a fire scene and Stephen Purdon, who plays Bob O'Hara, on Montego Street. Other plot points include weddings for Shieldinch residents and new developments at The Tall Ship.
A companion documentary titled River City: The Last Take follows the finale at 22:00 on the same date. Solus Production produced the one-off special for BBC Scotland.
