BBC Scotland has commissioned a two-part documentary series titled Terror at the Terminal. The production is handled by Firecrest Films. The 2x60 minute series provides an account of the June 2007 failed terrorist attacks targeting Glasgow Airport and London's West End. The project is part of a wider slate of factual commissions from independent production companies covering true crime, contemporary history, and terrorism.
The first episode focuses on the investigative process. It uses interviews with counter-terrorism detectives and Security Services members to detail the radicalisation of Bilal Abdulla and Kafeel Ahmed. This episode documents the assembly of their plans and the concurrent disruption of other conspiracies by British security agencies. The second episode reconstructs the Glasgow Airport attack using CCTV, archive footage, and first-hand testimony from those present during the event.
The series includes contributions from politicians and security experts. Jacqui Smith provides testimony regarding her response to the incident during her first weekend as Home Secretary. Kenny MacAskill also appears in the production to discuss the response from Scottish communities and emergency services. David Harron, Commissioning Editor for Documentaries and Specialist Factual at BBC Scotland, stated the series charts the police pursuit of the terrorists and the subsequent global intelligence operation. Mick McAvoy serves as Executive Producer for Firecrest Films.
The production combines first-hand accounts with official security service perspectives to document the counter-terrorism investigation. The series focuses on the specific events of June 2007 and the subsequent legal and intelligence outcomes. The Glasgow Airport attack occurred in June 2007.
