CBeebies has launched the Get Ready for School campaign to provide practical support for families during the transition to pre-school and Reception. The initiative runs through August and the initial weeks of the new school term. It focuses on separation anxiety, confidence, independence, and the establishment of new routines.
The campaign center is a special episode of CBeebies Parenting Download. Hosted by Katie Thistleton and Guvna B, the episode was recorded at CBeebies House in Salford. Guests include Minah Shannon and clinical psychologist Dr Martha Deiros Collado. The episode features a discussion on the definition of school readiness, with Dr Martha Deiros Collado stating that readiness does not depend on academic skills such as numbers and letters.
The content includes practical advice on managing separation at the school gate, including a love button ritual. Minah Shannon contributes personal testimony regarding the emotional impact of her daughter starting school. Kate Morton, Senior Head of Commissioning for CBeebies, stated that the campaign uses expert advice, parent experiences, and characters to support families. Morton noted that school readiness can be developed through play, conversation, and routines rather than a rigid checklist.
The campaign is part of a broader commitment by CBeebies Parenting to provide guidance on major childhood milestones. The production utilizes the CBeebies House facility in Salford for its recordings. This campaign provides content for parents and carers during the August and September period.
