BBC Sport has cancelled Ski Sunday, ending the programme after it first debuted in 1978. The decision follows a review of how the broadcaster delivers value for licence fee payers and serves audiences across platforms. BBC Sport cited changing audience viewing behaviours and financial savings requirements as the reasons for the cancellation.

Philip Bernie, Head of BBC Sport Events, stated that the broadcaster remains committed to providing winter sports coverage. This coverage will continue through the BBC Sport platforms, specifically during the Winter Olympics. The broadcaster has not announced a replacement for the weekly winter sports output provided by Ski Sunday.

The cancellation occurs while BBC Sport maintains a wide portfolio of long term sports rights. These include the Olympic Games through 2032, the FIFA Men's World Cup 2030, and the FIFA Women's World Cup 2027. Other active agreements include the UEFA Men's Euros 2028 and Wimbledon until 2033.

The network also holds the rights to Premier League highlights and the FA Cup. Additional agreements include the Six Nations until 2029, Champions League highlights until 2031, and ECB cricket until 2028. BBC Sport continues to hold the World Athletics Championships and Diamond League until 2029. BBC Scotland retains the rights to the World and European Curling Championships until 2030.
