The character of Ash Panesar returns to BBC One's EastEnders this autumn. Sakira Vel takes over the role in her first television credit. The character previously exited the series three years ago to take a professional position in Canada.

Executive producer Ben Wadey confirmed the casting of Vel. The character has had limited contact with her relatives during her time abroad. This return introduces new plot lines for the Panesar family, including existing tensions between Ash and her kin. Vel joins the ensemble cast alongside Balvinder Sopal, who plays Suki Panesar.

The production of EastEnders is managed by BBC Studios. The series continues to film on its permanent set in Elstree. The Panesar family was introduced to the soap in 2019 as part of a drive to increase South Asian representation in Walford. Ash Panesar was a recurring figure in the family's initial narrative arcs before her departure from the Square.

The character of Ash Panesar last appeared in the series in 2021.
