BBC Sounds has commissioned a new series of the true crime podcast Murder They Wrote. Hosted by Laura Whitmore and Iain Stirling, the production will air weekly this autumn. The series has produced over 150 episodes since its launch three years ago.
The new run includes a revised episode frequency of two broadcasts per week. Content will feature Casefiles episodes focusing on specific figures and stories from the main series. Returning formats include Mailbag episodes and listener suggested investigations. Scheduled cases for the upcoming series include the Josacine Affair, the Great Train Robbery, and Ed Gein. A dedicated Halloween sequence will cover real life crimes that inspired horror cinema characters.
Dylan Haskins, Commissioning Executive at BBC Sounds, stated that the show has developed a loyal community of listeners. Laura Whitmore and Iain Stirling will continue as the lead presenters for the new episodes. The production utilizes listener correspondence and theories to inform the content of the Mailbag segments.
The podcast is distributed exclusively via the BBC Sounds platform. It has been active for three years.
