Monty Don will leave BBC Gardeners' World at the end of the current series. He is the longest serving Head Gardener in the history of the programme. Don joined the production in 2003 and has presented approximately seven hundred episodes over a period of 23 years.
The presenter first hosted the show at Berryfields before moving the production to his own garden, Longmeadow, in Herefordshire 16 years ago. Don stated that he will continue to work with the BBC on other projects and intends to write further books. BBC Chief Content Officer Kate Phillips confirmed that Don will remain in his presenting role from Longmeadow until the end of the year.
Sharon Fisher, the Series Editor at BBC Studios, has worked with Don for twenty years. The production has focused on practical seasonal gardening and the impact of the natural world on mental health during Don's tenure. The broadcaster has served as the primary face of the series since 2003.
The series has aired weekly since its inception and remains a core part of the BBC factual portfolio. Don has presented the programme from his private residence in Herefordshire since 2011.
