BBC has commissioned a second series of Small Prophets, which will move from BBC Two to BBC One. The six part comedy is produced by Treasure Trove Productions and Channel X North. Mackenzie Crook writes and directs the series, while Gill Isles serves as producer.
The renewal follows first series performance data showing an average of 6.3m viewers over a 28 day window. BBC iPlayer accounted for 82 percent of that total, contributing 5.2m views. The first episode has reached 9.2m views outside of the initial 28 day reporting period. Emma Lawson, BBC Interim Director of Comedy, oversaw the commission.
The cast includes Mackenzie Crook, Sir Michael Palin, Pearce Quigley, and Lauren Patel. The plot centers on Michael Sleep, a DIY store employee who creates prophesying spirits in his garden shed using a recipe provided by his father. The production is filmed and set in Manchester.
Executive producers for the second series are Mackenzie Crook and Lisa Thomas for Treasure Trove Productions, alongside Alan Marke and Jim Reid. The show is the highest performing new comedy series for the BBC this year. The second series consists of six 30 minute episodes.
