The BBC has commissioned a second six-part series of the comedy drama The Walsh Sisters. The production is a collaboration between Cuba Pictures, a VICE Studios company, and Metropolitan Pictures for RTÉ in association with BBC, Screen Ireland, and Cineflix Rights. The BBC acquired the first series for BBC One and BBC iPlayer via Cineflix Rights.
The second series is based on the novels The Mystery of Mercy Close and Angels by author Marian Keyes. Stefanie Preissner continues as the writer and creative lead. The plot follows five sisters and their parents in Dublin, with storylines focusing on Rachel's recovery, Claire's motherhood, Maggie's marriage, Helen's emotional wellbeing, and Anna's heartbreak.
Returning cast members include Caroline Menton, Danielle Galligan, Máiréad Tyers, Stefanie Preissner, Louisa Harland, Aidan Quinn, and Carrie Crowley. New additions to the ensemble are Peter Coonan as David, Aislín McGuckin as Patsy Costello, Art Campion as a schoolfriend, and Fay Ripley as marriage counsellor Sharon.
The production remains a co-production between RTÉ and the BBC. The series is adapted from the works of Marian Keyes.
