BBC has announced a new ensemble cast for the second series of Nightsleeper. Colin Morgan, Madeleine Mantock, and Christian Cooke lead the production, which is currently filming in Belfast. Morgan plays Stephen Bowen, a technical director for the National Cyber Security Centre, while Cooke takes the role of Johnny, a second engineer. Mantock appears as Beth.
The six part series is written by Nick Leather and produced by Element Pictures, a Fremantle company. The plot moves from rail travel to a passenger ferry travelling from Belfast to Liverpool. The narrative focuses on a hack attack targeting the vessel and the efforts of the crew to conceal the threat from passengers.
Supporting cast members include Rupert Penry-Jones as Richard, Ian McElhinney as Charlie, and Sally Lindsay as Lisa. Other additions to the cast are Alexander Arnold, Lydia Page, and Christine Bottomley. Parth Thakerar, Jonjo O'Neill, and Micah Balfour return from the first series to reprise their roles as Saj, Hud, and Leon.
The production is commissioned for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, confirmed the casting of Morgan, Mantock, and Cooke. The first series of the real time thriller was also produced by Element Pictures.
