BBC Two, BBC Northern Ireland and iPlayer have commissioned A Course Called Ireland, a six part documentary series featuring Bill Murray. The production is a co-production between Skydance Sports and Stellify Media, a Sony Pictures Television company. The series follows Murray and author Tom Coyne as they visit golf courses across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Each episode of the series features a different golf course and a different guest. The cast includes Murray's family members Joel Murray and John Murray. Additional guests appearing in the series are Chris O'Dowd, Joanne McNally, and Jason Kelce. Cal Turner, BBC Commissioning Editor, described the series as unscripted and focused on the wit and warmth of the region.
Eddie Doyle, Head of Commissioning at BBC NI, stated the series focuses on friendship and humour alongside the sport. Kieran Doherty, CEO and Co-Founder of Stellify Media, confirmed the production involved unplanned events during the trip. Greg Groggel, SVP of Unscripted at Skydance Sports, noted that the series was shaped by the people and places encountered during filming.
The series consists of six episodes. The production involves a partnership between a US based sports entity and a Sony Pictures Television subsidiary. The series will be broadcast on BBC Two and made available via iPlayer.
