The BBC has commissioned The Last Detectives, a six-part crime drama produced by Quay Street Productions for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The co-commission with BBC Cymru Wales marks the return of writer and executive producer Matthew Barry to the network, following his previous collaborations on Men Up and The Guest.

The series, which was previously developed under the working title Old Town Murders, follows two senior detectives who are thrust together by circumstance to investigate a succession of murder cases in Tenby. Mark Lewis Jones leads as DI Glyn Walsh, working alongside Steffan Rhodri as DS Sion Dearden, a partnership defined by instinct and shared history rather than formal hierarchy. Their investigation team includes Bethan-Mary James as DC Remy Jones, Jordan Davies as DC Neil Miller, and Julie Graham as forensic biologist Pamela Thomas. Set against the Pembrokeshire coastline, each two-episode arc explores themes of second chances and personal crossroads, contrasting the picturesque surface of the town with the dark secrets its residents hide.

Quay Street Productions, part of ITV Studios, is producing the series with Davina Earl and BAFTA-winning Nicola Shindler serving as executive producers. On the BBC side, Rebecca Ferguson and co-commissioner Nick Andrews are overseeing the production, which has received support from the Welsh Government via Creative Wales. Andy Newbery, known for Heartstopper, directs the first four episodes and serves as executive producer, while Rhys Carter takes the helm for the final two. The series is distributed internationally by ITV Studios and features Hannah Daniel writing the fourth episode.
