Evolution had an episode air on Monday, July 13, 2026 at 6:00am. Series 1, Episode 1 titled "The Elephant" was broadcast on BBC iPlayer.
Chris Packham traces the biological lineage of the elephant, beginning four billion years ago with a single cell. The programme follows the long, branching path of evolution that eventually produces an animal of such immense scale. The journey spans deep time, moving from the microscopic origins of life to the emergence of complex, gentle giants. The narrative arc is defined by sheer duration, compressing geological epochs into a single visual explanation of how size became possible. The final image is not a roar, but a quiet, massive presence, the end result of that ancient and continuous process.
