Kevin McCloud returns to Chris and Gill, first met in 2001 as they converted a disused textile mill near Huddersfield into a minimalist, high-tech home. Two decades and five years later, the presenter assesses whether their meticulous approach has endured. The question is not just about the building’s survival, but the lifestyle within it. The mill stands in West Yorkshire, a testament to a specific vision of domesticity. McCloud walks the rooms, checking the integrity of a project that began as a radical experiment in renovation. The core inquiry remains simple and direct: has the strict discipline of their original design held up against the mess of real life?

Kevin McCloud meets artists Jana and Rory, who live in a former driving test centre in the east of Edinburgh but have ambitions for something bigger and much warmer to live in every winter. They want to replace the current building with a sleek, contemporary slipped box house with upside-down living to capture a view of the sea - and all on a minimal budget.
